Entertainer John Smolders, or Jan as he is known
by many, has a varied career in the Sydney music scene, initially
playing in rock bands to being trained at the Sydney Conservatorium
of Music under Myra Lambert’s guidance, to performing classical
works at the Sydney Opera House and other venues over many years.
John’s extensive repertoire includes singing “covers” in the Sydney
clubs, to time spent with the Sydney Philharmonia Choir, recording
with international artists and conductors, performing at three Olympic
Games to Barbara Streisand’s Timeless show. His role of Marcel in
La Boheme and Siebel in Faust were memorable.
With all this musical background and experience,
John’s next step was to record a jazz style CD as a way to define
himself musically and further explore his love of cabaret.
This CD is a direct result of an initial recording undertaken for
Romac, (Rotary International) a charitable organization that brings
hope to less fortunate children. You’ll Never Walk Alone became
the theme song for this cause and is used internationally for the
promotion of Romac.
